Struggling to know what you feel or want or need can come with a lot of social challenges. Especially in a lot of queer communities, there’s often high value placed on being able to name what you feel/want/need as a crucial relationship skill. And the social/relational cost of not being able to, or not being able to in the moment, can be really high. It can be stressful to work on building relationships, whether friendships or romantic relationships, when you know you’re likely to encounter this challenge and the crap feelings that come along with it not going well.
It can be easy to get to a place where struggling to know what you feel/want/need is something you hate about yourself, want to get rid of about yourself. Which is so reasonable, given the above.
In this workshop, I will give you a way to think about your struggle to know what you feel/want/need with the aim that it will allow you to give yourself a break about this. And I’ll lead you through an exercise to help you figure out some ways to give yourself some accommodations (and ask for them from people you’re close to) that can support you to be able to build relationships with more ease even while you continue to struggle to know what you feel/want/need.
Why am I facilitating this workshop?
Hi! I’m Sofia Olson. I have struggled to know what I feel/want/need for my whole life. I know how painful it can be, and I really want people who share this struggle to not have to walk this path alone.
There’s not a lot out there to address these struggles in ways that feel (at least to me) like they address our whole humanity and acknowledge the brilliance of how we’ve learned to navigate the world while also helping us alleviate the pain of it.
I’m a Level 2 certified Internal Family Systems practitioner, having done more than 1000 hours of work with clients. I have advanced training in Family Constellations. And my last 10 years have been a crash course in Disability Justice, as my family learned to navigate with my wife as a very chronically ill person.
This workshop brings together tools and principles from each of those disciplines to both honor and support those of us who struggle to know what we feel/need/want.
